Guest Post: Chrystal from Snow Drop Dreams

Hey guys long time no post this is my first post of many spotlighting all things Australian if you would like to do a post about Australia email me and we will work something out, you dont have to have been here or live here First up is Chrystal from Snow drop Dreams Enjoy!

When The Book Mystress asked for guest posters for Australia related posts I jumped at the chance to write a guest post about my visit to Australia. I had a fabulous time when I was there in 2004. I spent two weeks there just touring around The Gold Coast and Queensland and I thought I would share some of my favourite places that I had the chance to visit. I did spend a lot of time all over, but will highlight the ones I loved the most.

First – Lamington National Park south of Brisbane (http://www.lamingtonnationalpark.net.au/MainMenu.html)– this is where we did a tree top walk on bridges suspended in the trees. It was surreal to me as I am a little afraid of heights, but once I was up there it was just breathtaking. Also, we were able to feed the prettiest birds along the way – they would just fly over and land on you.

Second – Australia Zoo (home of the Crocodile Hunter, the late Steve Irwin) in Beerwah (http://www.australiazoo.com.au/)– this was when he was still alive and we actually were lucky enough to see him there. This zoo was really neat as it featured many Australian animals I had never heard of before and you could also feed or hold some of your favourites, like kangaroos and koalas.

Third – Lone Pine Sanctuary in Brisbane (http://www.koala.net/)– this is a quiet little zoo type place where many koalas and kangaroos live. This is also where I was able to finally hold a koala – they are ridiculously heavy, the one I held pooped on me and dug his claws into my shoulders... it was exciting, yet scary at the same time, but I'm glad I can say I finally held one (I've always wanted to since I was little collected koala toys). I also fed some kangaroos (they are like deer but WAY bigger and they stand on two legs instead of four) and a wallaby (he was cute).

And lastly – while we were road tripping, we decided to make a list of BIG things (http://www.bigthings.com.au/home.htm) all over and tried to find as many as we could. Honestly I have a file folder FULL of pictures of big things, but my scrapbook page holds my top three favourites. There was the BIG pineapple in Nambour  (http://www.bigpineapple.com.au/) at a pineapple plantation – I climbed up inside it. Then there was the BIG shell outside a really cool shop in Tewantin (http://bigshell.com.au/) – she sold the neatest sea shell jewelery. And then the BIG koalas (Coffs Harbour)– I couldn't pass up my picture with these guys.

I really hope you enjoyed my trip down memory lane and maybe one day you will have the chance to visit this gorgeous land.
