Booking Through Thursday (6) Personality.

btt buttonIn a related question to last week’s–
I was reading the other day a quote from JFK Jr who said on the death of his mother, that she died surrounded by family, friends, and her books. Apparently, Jackie’s books were very much a part of HER, her personality, her sense of self.
Up until recently, people could browse your bookshelves and learn a lot about you–what your interests are, your range of topics, favorite authors, how much you read (or at least buy books).
More and more, though, this is changing. People aren’t buying books so much as borrowing them from the library. Or reading them on their e-readers or computers. There’s nothing PHYSICAL on the shelves to tell strangers in your home, for better or worse, who you ARE.
Do you think this is a good thing? Bad? Discuss!

Hmm interesting question. I actually stopped to discuss this one with my little brother and my mum and came to the conclusion it depends on the person. If you walked in to my room you would know i like to write, i like stationary, i like books and i like music. but if you looked further in to it you would find out more.
I think if you looked at my books that i like Paranormal and literary Fiction but that is pretty much all you would find, I guess in the e-reader i have on my lappy the genres have a bit more range, i have fantasy and romance, but they are purely for review.
I dont think you would get much about my personality from my books. You would probably find out more about me if you looked in my music, Everthing From Hard Rock <3 to Country back around to Celine Dion and The Spice Girls, yeah my music tells me im a pretty all round person who likes any thing.
My Books how ever containing Lisa Schroeder, Laurie Halse Anderson, Jay Asher, Alyson Noel, Richelle Mead, Kim Harrington, and many more along those two lines tells my i like to read the same two genre's over and over again.
Back to the question at hand.
Do i think that people not buying books is a bad thing? Absolutly. Just because my books dont quite match my actual personality  they do match a tiny bit of it, and if you look at my mums books or some other people i know then yes, they do match thier personality, i do love my books, they are a part of who i am, i display them like i do my Avenged sevenfold posters, well, my books got set up before my A7X posters at the last place i lived in and probably will when i get my stuff here too, haha,

So thanks for reading my babble, if you made it all the way HERE then leave a comment telling my WHY lol,

  1. You're right, of course. Books don't always reveal everything about a person.

    Here's mine:

  2. For me my books are just my books they aren't on display they are just for me and I don't think they can tell a lot about me except for the fact that I love books.

  4. Yes, books can reveal bits and pieces, but they are only part of the whole.

But I do enjoy having them surround me, like a warm cloak.

    Thanks for visiting my blog.

  5. Hi there,

Wow! I'm soooo sorry it took so long for me to follow! For some reason, I thought I already was. (DUH!)

Anyway, I really like your blog. It's a whole lot of awesome!

I really hope you enjoy my book! I get so nervous when I know someone is reading it. (Just my silly insecurities, I guess!) I look forward to your review! :0)

Thanks for the follows on my blog, Twitter and FB, too! You make me smile!
